How to be filled with the Holy Ghost
Jesus taught His disciples about the Holy Spirit, or the Comforter. It was before Jesus went to the cross. What He said was significant because it dealt with what would happen when they were born again.
John 14:16-17 “…And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter KJV), that He may abide with you forever – the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
If you have already or you are about to pray the prayer to be born again then what Jesus said to them is now significant for you. When you made Jesus the Lord of your life, you were completely recreated in your spirit. Your recreation (being born again) happened through the power of the Holy . Now He (Jesus by the Holy ) has been there with you ever since the prayer of salvation, hovering over you, and ready waiting for your request to enter your spirit, and give you His very power. He will not force you to receive His power. He wants you as a child to request that power to become a vital part of your life.
Acts 1:8 “…But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem , and in all Judea and Samaria , and to the end of the earth.”
John 14:10-12 "…Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works. Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.”
As He ministered on earth, Jesus said, The Father that dwells in me, HE does the works… He that believes on me, the works that I do they will do also; and greater works than these will they do, because I go unto my Father. The Holy Ghost dwelling within you will do these “greater works.”
Jesus commanded His disciples to go forth in power
Mark 16:15-18 “…Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature… And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues… they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”
When you go and become a witness of Jesus and his works and then pray for people, the Holy Spirit will come alongside you to bring salvation, healing, deliverance, or whatever the persons need might be.
Mark 16:20 “…And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.”
The power of the Holy Spirit is ready for any situation and when the Holy Spirit lives in you, you will find that you are empowered for any situation. His power is always present in you to facilitate you to be a witness and get the job done, delivering God’s Word successfully.
Acts 2:1-4 “…When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
God the Father sent the Holy Spirit into the earth on the day of Pentecost. Now it is up to you to receive Him into your own life.
You do not have to beg God to give you the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a gift and all you have to do is receive Him just as you received Jesus – by faith that is you believe God’s Word to you.
Now that you are born again or born of the Spirit, (the old man is dead and the new man now lives), you are ready to receive the Holy Spirit. All you have to do is invite Him in. Once He lives inside you (in your spirit), He will help you clean up the temple and get rid of the habits, fears and the old ways. He will push the unclean things out of your life and replace them with new life. The Holy Spirit is the power that gets these things done.
To receive the Holy Spirit, you must do one thing – ask
Luke 11:9-13 “…So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Jesus is speaking about a son (in Gods eyes male or female) asking something of his father. You are a son of God. You are His child and He is your Father. If you go to God your Father and ask for the Holy Ghost, you will not get a devil as some have believed and taught. Do not be worried about getting the wrong thing. God our Father is the giver of every good and perfect gift.
James 1:16-18 “…Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.”
God is poised and ready to give you the Holy Spirit when you ask Him. The Holy Spirit came to earth on the day of Pentecost and He is still here today doing the work that He was sent to do. He is with you right now. The moment you ask the Father for the Holy Spirit, He will give Him to you. He is ready to fill you with the presence and power of the Holy Spirit; He is even more ready than you are ready to receive Him. The Holy Spirit is continually present, ready to move, because He wants you to be a crucial and powerful witness in the whole earth.
Your own will is involved in receiving the Holy Spirit just as it is in being born again. Just as you had to choose to be born again, you have to choose to receive the Holy Spirit. God will not force the Holy Spirit into your life. Without your voluntary action, you will never receive anything from God.
To receive the Holy Spirit you have to humble yourself before God. You stand before God open and ready. You give Him your body, your mind, and your spirit. You say, “Here I am, asking that You come and live big on the inside me. Your Word says that You will give the Holy Spirit to anyone who asks. I ask You right now to fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I now expect You to do it.”
Remember you cannot go by your feelings; you receive the Holy Spirit by faith, not by your feelings.
When you receive the Holy Spirit, something extraordinary happens: You are filled and able to speak in another language.
Acts 2:4 “…And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”
When you receive the Holy Spirit, you are filled and then utterance is given, understand that you do the speaking not the Holy Spirit. Nowhere in the New Testament does it ever say that the Holy Spirit does the speaking on your behalf. God will not force you to speak in tongues. The Holy Ghost will supply you with the words – words that will sound mysterious to you – even so, you have to supply the sound.
The term “pray in tongues” means you are praying “in the spirit.”
We know that just as French, English or Spanish or whatever language you speak is the voice of your mind or how you hear and understand what your mind has heard; praying in tongues is the voice of your spirit.
1 Corinthians 14:2 “…For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.”
It is your spirit speaking mysteries unto God.
1 Corinthians 14:14 “…For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”
The apostle Paul tells us that when we pray in an unknown tongue (in the spirit) our spirit does the praying, however our understanding does not comprehend what our spirit has said.
