Faith in the Name of Jesus
Authority in three worlds
E. W. Kenyon said, “Before the Lord returns, there will be a mighty army of believers who would have learnt the secret of living IN the Name; of reigning as mortals BY the Name; of living the victorious resurrection life BECAUSE of the Name!”
Philippians 2:9-11 [AMP] “ Therefore, God has highly exalted Him and has freely bestowed on Him the Name that is above every Name, that in the Name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.”
This scripture mentions two things concerning the Name of our Lord:
[1] The Name of Jesus is ‘above every other Name’. Why Jesus? After all Jesus, the Greek for Joshua was a common name in Palestine during that period! Joshua actually means ‘saviour’. It’s interesting to note that in the Epistles of Paul ‘Jesus’ appears alone just 13 times. In the Epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude, all men who had accompanied the Lord in His days here on earth, ‘Jesus Christ’ is the invariable order of the Name and Title, for this was the order of their experience. They knew Him first as Jesus and learnt finally after His resurrection that He was the Christ. In Paul’s letters the order reflects a reverse experience as he came to know Him first in the glory of heaven [Acts 9:1-6].
[2] “In [at] the name of Jesus every knee should [must] bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth.” The second thing mentioned regarding the Name of Jesus is that it has authority in three worlds. Remember, just before our Lord ascended to be with the Father He said, “All power [authority] has been given to Me in heaven and on earth” [Matthew 28:18]. Thereafter, when He became seated at the right hand of God in heavenly places, God put “all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church” [Ephesians 1:22]. However, the verse immediately before this declares, “...Far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.”
The degree to which you are using the Name of Jesus is the degree to which the forces of darkness will submit to you. No more and no less!
In the Book of Acts, Peter and John were called in by the Sanhedrin and commanded “not to speak or teach at all in the Name of Jesus” [Acts 4:18]. In Acts 5:28 they repeated their command stating, “We give you strict orders not to teach in this Name.” Remember, even the devil and all the evil spirits opposing the church, acknowledge that it is the Name of Jesus which gets results! The gates of hell cannot prevail against the church – a community armed with the Name of Jesus! |
