Connecting to Your Future

Proverbs 10:26 says, “The prospect (hope) of the righteous is joy.” In other words, when you connect to your future (in God) you connect to happiness! However, we often neglect this truth. Have your hopes and dreams ever kept you awake at night? Do you ever wonder how all the pieces are going to come together to unleash all you are wishing for? Trusting God with your future is as simple as understanding that your future is God's History. Psalm 139:16 says that every moment of every day was recorded in His book before a single day had passed.

This means that when you place your hope in God you actually connect to your future. In Genesis 17, God appeared to Abram and made a covenant with him, guaranteeing he would become a mighty nation. He changed his name to Abraham, because he would be known as the father of many nations - even though Sarah was old and had not been able to have children. Can you imagine living with a promise like that? Everyday when Abraham looked to the heavens he was reminded that his descendants would be as innumerable as the stars. If any man had a right to be stressed and give up hope it was Abraham. The biological clock had certainly stopped ticking yet there was a promise of God hanging over His life. God's promises do not exist to frustrate our lives but rather to direct our hope and increase our faith.

When Abraham believed God, he was connected to his future. Faith connects you to the invisible, it connects you to what has not yet happened and brings it into existence. Abraham's faith in God was the key to receiving the promise.

When he placed his faith in God's word, he connected to the God who brings the dead back to life and who brings into existence what didn't exist before! In Hebrews 4:17 it says that Abraham's faith did not waver when he considered the natural possibilities.
In the natural realm, having a child was impossible for Sarah and Abraham, but he never faltered in believing God's promise. Instead his faith grew stronger as he lived utterly convinced that God was able to do as he had promised. Faith enables us to live through the seasons when there is no manifestation of God’s promise. Abraham could have focused on the natural evidence, which can bring doubt and fear, and it can cause unbelief. There will always be something that will discourage you or oppress you. There will always be challenges and obstacles to negotiate, but whatever God has declared, you can become! Everyday Abraham was becoming the father of many nations. Whatever consumes your vision will become your future. Decide today who you are going to become. Connect with your future by connecting to God!

Jeremiah 29:11 - “For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God has a better future for you - better than you can ever dream of. And He has plans for you! But notice, these plans are to prosper you! Yes, your future is God’s history - it was designed before you were even born. So connect to your future right now by deciding to put your trust in God. And nothing else!
