Faithful is He

Key ScripturesThe Amplified Bible

Deuteronomy 7:9 “Know, recognize, and understand therefore that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God, Who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep His commandments, to a thousand generations…”

Acts 10:38 “How God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the [Holy] Spirit and with strength and ability and power; how He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by [the power of] the devil, for God was with Him.”

1 Corinthians 1:9 “God is faithful (reliable, trustworthy, and therefore ever true to His promise, and He can be depended on); by Him you were called into companionship and participation with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Philippians 1:6 “And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.”

1 Thessalonians 5:24 “Faithful is He Who is calling you [to Himself] and utterly trustworthy, and He will also do it [fulfill His call by hallowing and keeping you].”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen [you] and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil [one].”

What is Faithfulness

Pistis - often used in the NT of a conviction or belief in respect to God and Christ. It is also used to describe the quality of “fidelity, faithfulness.” Thayer calls faithfulness “The character of one who can be relied on…” Vine calls faithfulness “Faithful, to be trusted, reliable…” William Barclay calls it “The virtue of reliability…”

This virtue, unfortunately, is not too common…

Proverbs 20:6 many may claim to be faithful, really it is hard to find. Faithfulness is not seen in words it is however seen in your actions in everyday life, in service to the Father.

Psalms 12:1-2 the Psalmist criticised the lack of “faithfulness” in his day, describing a condition which seems to always be with us in the church.

Faithful is He

Deuteronomy 7:9 look at the Amplified, it says, “know, recognize and understand…”

Last time I ministered I spoke about the need to renew our minds and how what we meditate on; whether good or bad, will come out of our mouths and will ultimately be seen in our actions. To be able to achieve what the amplified says; “to know, recognize and understand…” requires us to meditate on the Word of God day and night.

It requires a daily commitment to the Word of God. We have to understand that we must have more than a brief encounter or general look at who God the Father is to be able to know, recognise and understand that He is faithful. A general look at something is a passing glance, you see without really getting to know, recognise or understand what or who you see.

It could be like; when you zone out and you send your brain on a very brief and uneventful vacation. To know, recognize and understand requires us to use our cognitive abilities. Cognitive abilities are the mental skills necessary for a successful life. For us to understand that God is God and that He is faithful requires us to continually go to the Word of God and meditate over it and remember who God is.

•    God is true
•    God is constant
•    God will adhere to his promises
•    God will not deceive
•    God will not promise, and then fail to perform
•    God will not commence anything which he will not perfect and finish

Look at what else this scripture says, “…who keeps covenant and steadfast love and mercy with those who love Him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations…” It always amazes me that we as Christians so often agree with the world; that somehow God has failed to honour His word? How do we agree – we fail to step out in faith doing what the Word of God says we can do.

We forget that he is faithful.

We don’t want to offend people so we don’t challenge where they are spiritually. We don’t step out and suggest that we pray for someone just in case we offend or maybe nothing happens. We need to understand that truly He is God the faithful God.

That tells me there are unfaithful gods that are in the earth; they are the ones which man create and worship.

Deuteronomy 32:4 “He is the Rock, His work is perfect, for all His ways are law and justice. A God of faithfulness without breach or deviation, just and right is He.”

2 Thessalonians 3:3 “Yet the Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen [you] and set you on a firm foundation and guard you from the evil [one].”

Philippians 1:6 “And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.”

His faithfulness displayed – Faithful is He

Matthew 4:23-24 he healed all manner of sickness and disease. Those taken with divers diseases and torments, those who were demon possessed with devils, those who were lunatic, those with palsy he healed them.

Mark 3:10 if God was not faithful to His word none of the people would have tried to get to Jesus to be healed.

Mark 4:22-42 a father with a daughter who was dying and a woman with an issue of blood healed.

The need to be faithful

Galatians 5:22-23 faithfulness is part of the recreated spirit.

2 Corinthians 5:17 when we were born again the very life of God came into us.

That means we can be faithful as he is faithful the same as we can love in the same way he loves.

Faithfulness and blessing

Proverbs 28:20 a faithful man will abound in blessing.

Psalms 31:23 those who are faithful are blessed of the Lord.

The devil hates faithfulness

Faithfulness is the one thing that the devil wants us to fail at. He knows that if we fail at faithfulness we will fail when it comes to having faith in God. Why? Because when we are not faithful we will begin to believe that God is not faithful. When you are faithful you will have faith in God.

Love never fails

1 John 4:1-21 God's love has been shed abroad in our hearts that’s should compel us to be faithful. 1 John 4:17 act as Jesus acts in this world. Our love is made perfect and we can have boldness simply if we just do what Jesus did.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Paul tells us that we are to imitate someone as they imitate Christ.

Galatians 2:20 – Kenneth Wuest – "With Christ I have been crucified, and it is no longer I who lives, but there lives in me Christ. And that life which now I live in the sphere of the flesh, by faith I live it, which faith is in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself on my behalf."
