God is a Big God

Essentially:

    * We have a big God.
    * As we have understanding our His greatness, our world view changes for the better.

God created the Universe and galaxies are still being discovered.

As we see how big God is our response should not be to feel small and insignificant but rather to increase our sense of worth and value because this Big God is for us and not against us.

As we get a sense of God’s vision, our vision can grow and expand.

Psalms 24:1 “…The Earth is the Lord’s and everything in it.”

Hebrews 1:10 “…In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.”

Abraham a man like you and me with everyday life issues to deal with but God got a hold of him and his life changed.

Rather like us!

Today he is known as the “father of the faith”, but he made mistakes, sinned, messed up was disobedient at times BUT by God’s grace he had a fire burning within him like the burning bush that did not consume him, but urged him forward.

Genesis 15:1-6

“Look Up” – Look at the Greatness of God rather than your problem.

“Believe” – It’s all about Faith – having an absolute trust in our awesome God.

Melchizedek sowed the seed in the previous chapter when he said Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of heaven and earth.

Abram became Abraham and the addition in Hebrew is the word for God. God came into his life in a big way.

Abraham’s view of God was enlarged!

Apparently we don’t use much of our brain – so there is plenty of scope to get a bigger vision!

Job 38:4-12, 16 God speaks to Job.

Isaiah 55 God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts and His ways higher than ours but just like the rain, He sends us His word.

Remarkable that God chose to limit himself to the body of a man to reveal himself to us as our Saviour. Hebrews 1:3 says that Jesus is the exact representation of God the Father.

Jesus was both God and Man and there is a great mystery there, but Jesus grew up to discover who he was just like we do.

He developed a relationship with his heavenly Father, just as we do – as Pastor Chris was speaking about this morning.

Yes God is the Creator of the Universe and unlimited by time and space, but He knows us intimately.  Matthew 10:29-30 “…Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from the will of your Father. And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Now that we have understanding of our Big God… some closing thoughts:

  • Next time you come up against an enemy, consider who is on your side. Romans 3:31 “…If God is for us, who can be against us?” Speak to the mountain.
  • If God is so great and yet knows us you intimately, don’t you think you can trust Him with your life? Why not wholeheartedly put your life in His hands. As Pastor Chris was saying this morning, trust God and also the leadership God has placed over your life.
  • Am I thinking too small, too afraid to make mistakes? Maybe it’s time to re-evaluate your goals. Think bigger, think greater, because the greater one is in you.
  • Don’t worry about your life. Psalms 121:7 “…The Lord will keep you from all harm – he will watch over your life.”
Meditate on His Greatness rather than the apparent greatness of your problems. It all a matter of perspective. LOOK UP
