Our Response in Hard Times

How to make your dreams become a Reality

The foundation of an incredible destiny is an incredible dream. Your dream will set the stage for your life. People who have no dream for their lives are unlikely to reach their full potential or fulfil their destiny. A prosperous soul is one that is full of wisdom and understands its full potential. Under-standing the great potential you have in God should cause you to have big dreams. Remember, the only boundaries you have are those you place on your own imagination.

Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” The human mind is capable of extraordinary thought and boundless imagination. Therefore why do so many of you live your lives with blinkered, short-sighted vision? If your dream is the foundation for your destiny, then destiny must be the fulfilment of that dream.

It is tragic that so many people have no dream! Without a dream it is unlikely they will ever reach their full potential in God or fulfil their destiny. The only down side about being a dreamer is that you will probably threaten some people. So, if you dare to be a dreamer don’t expect everybody to like you, or like your dream. But don’t let this deter you, on the contrary, keep dreaming new dreams and become even more determined. And remember, if you are a dreamer, you may grow old but you will never be old! But what exactly must you do to make all your dreams become a reality? Here are 3 steps that will help you along the way.

1. You must live your life to the full. Practically everybody has the will to live because self-preservation comes naturally. But the will to live is not enough. Life is not mere existence. Barely surviving or maintaining do not represent a full life. Life is a choice and you must choose to live life to the full! When you choose to live life to the full it will not only affect you but it will positively affect those around you - especially your family.

When you have a dream it is much easier to improve your quality of life. Your dream can breathe life into your existence and drive you toward your destiny. But more than this, it can make the journey more enjoyable! However, you are going to need the will to hang on to your dream and live your life to the full - no matter what challenges may confront you.

The greatest threat to your dream becoming a reality is not an external force but those negative attitudes from within. The following 3 positions can be labelled “Dream Killers” as they will suck the life from your dream (if left unattended).

(a) An unteachable spirit. Failure to continue to grow and to learn will seriously damage your dream and stop you living life to the full.

King Solomon said it this way, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning, and a man of understanding will attain wise counsel.” (Proverbs 1:5) “Give instruction to a wise man and he will still be wiser, teach a just man and he will increase in learning.” (Proverbs 9:9) Note, if you ever allow yourself to get to a place where you “can’t be told”, you risk suffocating your dream. The very day you think, “there’s nothing more to learn” is your day of destruction.

The mark of a true dreamer is a genuine hunger for more information. As a dreamer walks out his dream, and moves toward its fulfilment, he is always hungry to learn, always desiring to live life to the full. Note, a wise man is not necessarily the one who gives the right answers, but the one who asks the right questions.

(b) An acceptance of personal limitations. Dreams cannot be built on your own limitations. And there will always be someone around to tell you why it can’t be done or why you will never achieve it. A dreamer will envisage life beyond his personal limitations. He will look beyond that which is possible and aim for the impossible. Remember, if you want to live a higher way you must think higher thoughts! Narrow thinking stifles your quality of life and produces doubt and unbelief.

(c) Refusal to speak positively. Proverbs 18 21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Your words are a dynamic and creative force. If you desire to see your dreams become a reality you must refuse to speak or confess negative words. You must become committed to speaking words of life. Proverbs 10:11 states, “The mouth of the wise is a well of life.” Is your mouth a well of life or a swamp of defeat?

2. You must have the will to succeed. Notice, the will to live your life to the full is not enough, you must also have the will to succeed. You must not ignore your greater purpose in God. In this regard, success shouldn't be optional. It is your responsibility to God and your family to make a success of your life. To ignore this is to accept living way below your created potential in Christ. Never excuse mediocrity by rejecting success. It is within your “created fibre” to be successful. However, it is a success that’s committed to impacting and influencing, so that you may allow God to exercise His Sovereignty and Lordship over every situation. For this reason a dreamer must not only dream of success but also dream to serve God with that success.

3. You must have a heart to serve. When the disciples asked Jesus who would occupy the highest position in His Kingdom, the Lord pointed them to servant hood. Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Every dreamer’s dream must serve a greater purpose than his own. Therefore, a true dreamer must be a servant or facilitator of a great cause. Life is not about hoarding, neither should it represent greed and selfish ambition. But the will to serve is a commitment to be a blessing to others. Remember, it is how much you are able to give away in a lifetime, whether it be money or knowledge, time or encouragement, that truly counts.
You were born to live, you live to succeed, and you succeed to serve. This is how your dreams become a reality.
