Six Enemies to Faith

Fighting the good fight of faith

When we “…fight the good fight of faith,” we can step out of a life of failure which restricts us into a life filled with God's power which knows no bounds. Over the years I have heard people talk about fighting the devil or fighting sin or however the battle against both has been fought and won in Jesus and his blood.

Because of what Jesus did we have to walk in the reality of that truth which has set us free?

1 Timothy 6:12 there is only one fight we are called to fight; “…the good fight of faith.”

Remember Pastor Chris said – “…faith is absolute confidence in the trustworthiness of God and total conviction that what God says is true and that what He has promised will come to pass.” Another statement says “…Faith is grasping the unrealities of hope and bringing them into the realm of reality.” When we “…fight the good fight of faith,” we go from just getting by in life to a life full of boundless power in God.

No. 1 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to understand what it means to be a new creature (creation) in Christ.
  • A lack of understanding of what it means to be a new creature or creation in Christ will hinder our faith. The very life and nature of God flows through us, we are children of God, sons of God, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:17-18a we are new creations all that we are comes from God.
  • Colossians 1:9-13 we are filled with God.
  • 2 Peter 1:3-4 we are partakers of the divine nature.
  • 2 Corinthians 4:13-18 we have the spirit of faith.
  • 1 Thessalonians 2:12 we walk worthy of God.
  • 2 Peter 1:1-10 in verse 3 we read “…everything that goes into a life of pleasing God has been miraculously given to us.”
  • Romans 5:1-5, 1 Peter 5:8-10 we are strengthened by God.
No. 2 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to understand our place in Christ.
  • Ephesians 2:4-6 for us to be able to operate in faith we need to know our place in the kingdom of heaven.
  • When you know who you are in Christ you will know what belongs to you.
  • You will act differently.
  • You will talk differently.
  • You will think differently.
  • You will begin to walk in the light of what actually belongs to you in Christ.
  • We find in the epistles there are over 130 instances where it mentions; “in Christ” “in whom” and “in Him.”
  • Ephesians 1:3-4 we have been (passed tense) blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.
  • We were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world.
  • Ephesians 1:7 we have redemption through the blood and the forgiveness of sins.
  • Ephesians 1:10 we have been gathered together in Christ.
  • Ephesians 1:12-13 we are sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.
No. 3 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to understand righteousness.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:21 Jesus was made sin on our behalf so that we could be made the righteousness of God in Christ.
  • Righteousness is the ability to stand in the presence of the Father without guilt or condemnation as if sin never existed.
  • 1 John 1:7 the blood of Jesus cleanses from all sin.
  • Because of the blood of Jesus we become a righteous new creation.
  • We are created by God in Christ Jesus a righteous new creation.
  • We are now sons and daughters of God as though we had never sinned.
  • Some might say; “How can I be righteous. I have committed sin since becoming a Christian?”
  • 1 John 1:9 God does two things when you confess and ask for forgiveness of your sins:
  • He forgives you;
  • He cleanses you from all unrighteousness.
  • When we confess our sin He forgives and he also cleanses.
  • At that moment we regain our right standing with Him.
No. 4 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to understand our right to use the name of Jesus.
  • John 16:23-24 if we ask in the name of Jesus.
  • When we realise the power of the name of Jesus we will understand what that name will do and then we can enforce defeat on Satan and enjoy victory.
  • Mark 16:15-17 every believer has authority over the devil.
  • The name of Jesus belongs to us to use against Satan.
No. 5 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to act upon the Word of God.
  • 2 Corinthians 5:7; Hebrews 10:38 the Word of God has to be the basis of our lives so that faith becomes our natural walk and not the senses.
  • If we know Gods' Word is true and we act as though it is true then it will become a reality in our lives.
  • John 8:31-32 Jesus said to abide or continue in the Word of God.
  • Smith Wigglesworth said “I can not understand God by feelings. I can not understand Jesus Christ by feelings. I can only understand God the Father and Jesus Christ by what the Word says about them. God is everything the Word says He is. We need to get acquainted with Him through His Word.”
  • Proverbs 3:5 says “…do not lean to your own understanding…” so we need to ask this question “What does God’s word say?”
  • When we act like the Word of God is true we will have what it says we have.
  • If the Word of God is the basis of our lives we will always do what the Word of God says.
  • We will act as though the Word of God is absolutely true; that is what faith is all about.
  • Brother Kenneth E. Hagin said “Real faith is the child of the knowledge of God's Word.”
  • James 1:21-22 after telling us we must receive the Word with meekness James wants us to do something else.
  • This step is the most important step you can make “We are to be a performer of the Word of God.”
No. 6 Enemy of our faith – is a failure to hold fast to our confession of faith.
  • Romans 10:10 “…with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
  • Faith is measured by our confession.
  • Our usefulness in the Lord is measured by our confession.
  • Then we become what we confess we are.
  • There is confession of the heart and confession of our lips and when these two agree we become mighty in our prayer life.
  • Mark 11:23-24 our confession rules us.
  • Mark 5:25-34 one of the reasons many Christians are defeated is because of ‘negative confession.’
