The Supernatural Nature of the Word of God
Ezekiel 3:3 In a vision, God spoke to Ezekiel saying “Son of man, eat this scroll that I am giving you and fill your stomach with it.” So I ate it, and it tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth
Yes, we can eat the word of God. It is supernatural food, feeding our spirit.
Things happen when you feed on the Word.
Embracing the truth of God’s word will enhance our lives. It will help us live our best lives. That a good incentive isn’t it?
Jesus taught in John 8:32 Hold to my teaching……then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. Free to live my life as God intended, not dragged down my negative thinking, but open to all that is good – the abundant life. Not problem free, but able to tackle obstacles head on.
Spirit, Soul and Body. Wholeness
Physical health important: exercise, food, rest etc.
Soul – thinking right, renewing our minds with the word stimulates this. As am man thinks in his heart so is he
Spirit – this is the real us, and our spirits need nourishment and this governs every other area.
No spiritual dimension through the word of God and you get mixed up lives – just look at the evening news
Matthew 4 Jesus was tempted by Satan. V4 Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God (quoting Deut 8:3). We require physical and spiritual food.
So what does it mean to live on the word of God?
My attitude to life - God’s in charge and He is with me
How I treat my wife
How I raise my children
How I conduct my business
How I treat my friends
How I handle money I embrace what the bible teaches about forgiveness
I live my life with an eternal perspective
I run my race before God.
When I fall, I get up again
I recognize that life is a gift from God
This is building our house on the rock. When the storms come, you will stand.
Ps 112:7 He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord
Mark 4 Parable of the Sower. Path, Rocky, Thorny Ground, Good Soil – Hear Accept and Produce a crop – they put it into practice. It’s one thing to hear the truth about forgiving others, its another to practice it. James 1:22
This is more that a “Quiet Time companion” or a “thought for the day”. Paul instructed Timothy in 2 Tim 2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. Diligence in the Word is encouraged
Psalm 1 As we carry God’s Word in our hearts and minds, we are nourished
Jesus said in John 6:63 The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life
The words of Jesus are not ordinary words – they are supernatural, they impact our spirit and this in turn influences how we live.
Hebrews 4:12 Living and active supernatural, alive, impacting our lives
Mark 4:26-29 shows us about the supernatural nature of the Word ….A man scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. All by itself the soil produces grain – first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. As soon as it is ripe, he puts the sickle to it because the harvest has come.
As we read it, and receive revelation, something happens on the inside of us. Could be healing or God’s financial provision. Then you are sick, have a financial need. Instead of a natural response, you harvest faith from God’s word eg the Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. No weapon formed against me will prosper. I am the head and not the tail, above and not beneath, whatever I do prospers.
Rom 10:17 Faith comes by hearing the Word, so no wonder our lives are enhanced
Ps 119
V9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word
V11 I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you
V24 Your statutes are my delight; they are my counsellors
V28 My soul is weary with sorrow, strengthen me according to your word
V32 I run in the path of your commands for you have set my heart free
V45 I walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts
V66 Teach me knowledge and good judgement, for I believe in your commands
V76 May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant
V89 Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens
V92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have preserved my life
V98 Your word makes me wiser than my enemies
V105 Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path
V114 You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word
V130 The unfolding of your word gives light; it gives understanding to the simple
V143 Trouble and distress have come upon me, but your commands are my delight
V160 All your words are true
V165 Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble
Hear the word, accept it and put it into practice.
