How to fulfil your Dreams
Today’s theme is “advancement” and “fulfilment.” And Jesus accomplished both at the Cross. Right through His life on this earth, He had a true sense of destiny. Every step He took, every move He made, brought Him closer to His destination (His dream). Jesus had a dream, and He lived His life for a greater “cause” - a cause that would affect mankind for eternity.
John 18:37, Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”
So many people live their lives blinkered and short-sighted. It’s tragic to have no dream - no cause to live for! Without a greater cause it is unlikely that you will ever reach your full potential in God or fulfil your destiny. The foundation of an incredible destiny is an incredible dream.
The cause of Jesus Christ should set the stage for your life. A prosperous soul is one which understands its full potential in God. Understanding the great potential you have in God should cause you to have big dreams. Therefore, the only boundaries you have are those you place on your own imagination. Albert Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” The human mind is capable of extraordinary thought and boundless imagination.
So what must we do to make all our dreams become a reality? How can we live for a greater cause? Here are three steps that will help you and keep you on course:
1. You must live your life to the full. Practically everybody has the will to live because self-preservation comes naturally. But the will to live is not enough. Life is not mere existence. Barely surviving, or maintaining, do not represent a full life. Life is a choice and you must choose to live life to the full! When you choose to live life to the full it will not only effect you but it will positively effect those around you [especially your family].
When you have a dream (a cause) it is much easier to improve your quality of life. Your cause breaths life into your very existence and drives you toward your destiny. More than this, it makes the journey more enjoyable!
The greatest threat to your dream becoming a reality is not an external force but those negative attitudes from within. The following three positions can destroy your dream if left unattended:
(a) An unteachable spirit. Failure to continue to grow and to learn will seriously damage your dream and stop you living life to the full. King Solomon said it this way, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning” [Prov. 1:5]. If you ever allow yourself to get to a place where you “can’t be told”, you risk suffocating your dream. The day you think “there’s nothing more to learn” is your day of destruction.
Note, a wise man is not necessarily the one who gives the right answers, but the one who asks the right questions.
(b) An acceptance of personal limitations. Dreams cannot be built on your own limitations. Therefore, it’s not what you do, but what the Christ in you is able to do. And there will always be someone around to tell you why it can’t be done or why you will never achieve it. You must envisage life beyond your personal limitations. You should look beyond that which is possible and aim for the impossible. So, if you want to live a higher way you must think higher thoughts! Narrow thinking stifles your quality of life and produces doubt and unbelief. The great cause is served through great faith!
(c) Refusal to speak positively. Proverbs 18 21 says, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” Your words are a dynamic and creative force. If you desire to see your dream become a reality you must refuse to speak negative words. You must be committed to always speaking words of life. Proverbs 10:11 states, “The mouth of the wise is a well of life.” Ask yourself this, “Is my mouth a well of life or a swamp of defeat?” Your words can either water your cause, or empty your reservoir.
2. You must have the will to prosper. Notice, the will to live your life to the full is not enough, you must also have the will to prosper (in all matters of life). Prospering shoudn’t be optional. It is your responsibility to God and your family to make a success of your life. To ignore this is to accept living way below your created potential in Christ. It is within your “Christian fibre” to prosper and be successful. As a Christian, you must not only dream of success but also dream to serve God with your success. Success serves your cause better than failure or defeat.
3. You must have a heart to serve others. No God given destiny is fulfilled without partnering with others. When the disciples asked Jesus who would occupy the highest position in His Kingdom, the Lord pointed them to servanthood. Albert Einstein once said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile.” Every dream must serve a greater purpose than its own.
Therefore, your cause must be a servant or facilitator of a greater cause. Life is not about hoarding, neither should it ever represent greed and selfish ambition. It is about servanthood, and the will to serve is a commitment to be a blessing to others. So, your life should be about how much you are able to give away; whether it be money or knowledge, time or encouragement. And this is what will truly count. So how do you attain fulfilment? By realising that, You were born to live for a cause, you live to prosper for a cause, and you prosper to serve the cause. |
