The undeniable Laws of Life

The Law of Divine Intervention

Divine intervention is the sovereignty of God interrupting our daily lives.

“And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses” [Exodus 33:9]. Moses prepared a special place where he could meet with God and the Lord honoured this by speaking to Moses “face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” [verse 11].

If you wish to meet with God face to face, or if you would like God interrupt your life [as and when it pleases Him], then you too must prepare a special place for His presence to manifest.  Under the Law, God’s divine presence could never take up permanent residency in the human heart. But under the Law of Grace the Lord God Almighty abides in all believers. Therefore, the tabernacle of meeting you must prepare is in your heart.

Moses had erected a sort of portable, small-scale place of worship for special times of intimate communion with God. But he placed it a great distance from the camp because of the desecration caused by the moulded calf the people had chosen to worship. They had practised idolatry, and by doing so, defiled the camp, so Moses could not worship or meet with God anywhere near that location. The same attitude must be applied to your heart. It must be free [and distanced] from all things that can defile the Most Holy place of meeting; the very place where you can worship God in spirit and in truth.

God does want to intervene and visit with you, but He cannot manifest His divine presence where any form of idolatry has been practised. The Law of Divine Intervention is dependent on you having prepared a sanctified location for God to occupy.

It’s a place where righteousness responds to righteousness, and not holiness to flesh, which is totally unacceptable. 1 Peter 1:15 says, “But as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in your conduct, because it is written, ‘Be holy, for I am holy’.”  God want’s you to be just like His Son Jesus, but He also wants to be able to visit you anytime He wishes.  This means that you should always have a holy place of meeting - a tabernacle - prepared for Him.

“Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are” [1 Corinthians 3: 16,17]. The Greek for “destroy” gives us insight into the true meaning of this verse. The word means “to ruin through corruption.”  Therefore, God permits destruction to come about because the one defiling will himself be brought to ruin.  The corruption may be false teaching, pride, immorality or lust, but the result is always the same. You end up destroying yourself!

Notice, God desires to intervene and fellowship with you, because you are His sacred temple. Therefore, your behaviour must be acceptable to Him. “... Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service” [Romans 12:1]. “You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God though Jesus Christ” [1 Peter 2:5].

If your conduct is not acceptable to God, you cannot expect Him to manifest His presence in your life. Yes, you may be in desperate need of divine intervention, and God’s grace and mercy is still available to you, but divinity does not mingle with iniquity. One drop of corruption can defile that which has been sanctified, and God never fellowships with the sinful nature. Therefore, you must regularly apply the precious blood of Jesus and purge yourself of all sin.  1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

Divine intervention is the sovereignty of God interrupting our daily lives. But note, the Law of Divine Intervention cannot be operated by man; it is entirely as God wills. He interrupts your life as and when He sees fit.  God controls the times and the seasons, and will manifest His presence when your life is wholly acceptable to Him. This law places complete control in His capable hands.

Turn with me now to Luke 19 and let’s read the story of the tax collector named Zacchaeus. Notice, there were three attributes that this man possessed:

[1] A decisive heart. He prepared himself, and positioned himself, in order to see the Lord clearly. Verses 3 and 4, “And he sought to see who Jesus was, but could not because of the crown, for he was of short stature. So he ran ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see Him.”  Are you decisive and determined enough to make the right preparations for the Lord to visit with you? And, have you positioned yourself where it is best to see Him clearly?

[2] A joyful heart.  Verse 6, “So he made haste and came down, and received Him joyfully.” Divine intervention is attracted to a joyful heart. Are you joyful and expectant concerning the Lord’s divine presence?

[3] A repentant heart. Verse 8, “…If I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.”  Are you willing to clean up your act the way this man has done?

If you want Jesus to come round to your house and visit, have you prepared for Him coming? He may be standing at the door and knocking!  But are you listening?  [Revelation 3:20].
Finally, turn with me to John 21 and let’s see how Jesus intervenes and blesses His disciples with a miracle catch.
